Poetry by  Ellie McFarland

I’m going to take a road trip
as far West as I can drive
alone with acid tabs and
my own girlish recklessness
in my pocket.
I will let all that is woman
about my body dissolve
into the desert floor
emerge, head shaved
and totally gone.
I want to be invisible the way men are,
a sexless specter in a bar
listening to the conversations of men
who’s lives will always be more interesting than mine.
I want to haunt all that is mascline
just like I always have done.
I want to sleep in an open field
and walk freely at night.
